An important part of CLPI's mission is to protect and expand the rights of nonprofits and their constituents to have their voices heard in the democratic process. Whether it is making lobbying easier for charitable organizations to do or clarifying the rules for nonpartisan voter engagement, CLPI will work to ensure that nonprofits have a seat at the policy table.
Civic engagement is at the heart of our democracy founded upon the principle of government of, by and for the people. Nonprofits often know best what works and does not work in meeting critical human needs. For this reason, enlightened policy makers seek out the input of nonprofit leaders on solving our society’s most difficult challenges. As partners with government and business, nonprofits are essential players. As watchdogs on the private and public sectors, nonprofits can deliver accountability and efficiency.
This section will provide information and resources on how to protect and expand advocacy rights. From time to time, we also may ask you as grassroots partners to let your voices be heard on specific efforts. Together, as "committed citizens," we can create lasting, systemic change to improve people’s lives.
"Getting the change you want in public policy will occur most readily when you join with other groups in coalition."
